Collect of the Day

Almighty God,
you have taught us through your Son
that love fulfils the law.
May we love you with all our heart,
all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength,
and may we love our neighbour as ourselves;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Sermon

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

In peace, let us pray to Jesus our Lord, who ever lives to make intercession for us.

Saviour of the world, be present in all places of suffering, violence and pain, and bring hope even in the darkest night. Inspire us to continue your work of reconciliation today.  Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer

Lord of the Church, empower by your Spirit all Christian people, [especially NN], and the work of your Church in every land. Give us grace to proclaim the gospel joyfully in word and deed.  Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer

Shepherd and Guardian of our souls, guide and enable all who lead and serve this community and those on whom we depend for our daily needs. Grant that we may seek the peace and welfare of this place. Lord in your mercy … hear our prayer

Great Physician, stretch out your hand to bring comfort, wholeness and peace to [N and] all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. Fill us with compassion, that we may be channels of your healing love. Lord in your mercy …. hear our prayer

Conqueror of death, remember for good those whom we love but see no longer. Help us to live this day in the sure and certain hope of your eternal victory. Lord in your mercy …. hear our prayer

Let us commend ourselves, and all for whom we pray to the mercy and protection of God. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: Blue # 354 Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

The Holy Eucharist

A Prayer for Spiritual Communion

Leader: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

Leader: Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst…54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.  57 Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me.  (John 6)

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

All: Dear Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to possess you within my soul. And since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to you, together with all your faithful people gathered around every altar of your Church, and I embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Concluding Prayer

God of power,
we are nourished by the riches of your grace.
Raise us to new life in your Son Jesus Christ
and fit us for his eternal kingdom,
that all the world may call him Lord.
We ask this in his name.

Hymn: Blue # 330 O Praise Ye the Lord

Leader: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Announcements

Sunday School returns in September. During the summer we invite the children to join us for the whole service and help bring the gifts up to the altar. Toys and books are available in our play area at the back of the church, and the church playground is always available (with parental supervision). We are glad to have the children with us! Many thanks to Bill and Claire Middleton for providing a wonderful Sunday School for our children this year. We would be delighted to have more Sunday School teachers. If you feel a calling to this important ministry to our children, please speak to Mtr Catherine.
