Sermon – Guest Preacher: Susie Kim
The Nicene Creed
All: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
The Prayers of the People
Holy Creator, in whom all things in heaven and earth live and move and have their being, Have mercy on us.
Risen Christ, through whom the whole creation is reconciled to God, Have mercy on us.
Life-giving Spirit, whose love and truth fills the world and searches the depths of our lives, Have mercy on us.
Blessed Trinity, source of all unity, Have mercy on us.
For the gift of all the peoples of the world, and especially the First Peoples of this land; for their unique wisdom and culture and beauty, Father, we give you thanks.
For the beauty of the earth, and for the First Peoples who teach us to honour your creation, Father, we give you thanks.
For your Word, its truth and grace, and for the First Peoples who teach us to be faithful to the Scriptures, Father, we give you thanks.
For the wrong we have done to each other and especially to our brothers and sisters of the First Nations, in misappropriation of land, in cruelty known and unknown in the residential schools, in continuing economic and social inequities, Saviour, forgive us and heal us.
For our continued acceptance of the suffering of indigenous communities and people, and for the acts and choices in our own lives that make such suffering possible, Saviour, forgive us and heal us.
O God, we pray for the gifts of your grace and your love which is forever faithful. Inspire our minds with a vision of the reconciliation of your kingdom in this time and place. Hear us, O Christ.
Draw your Church together, O Lord, into one great company of disciples, together repentant, together faithful, together trusting in your grace; following our Lord Jesus Christ into every walk of life and witnessing to your love on every continent and island of your creation. We ask this in the name of the Risen Christ in whom we are one. Amen.
The Peace
Leader: In Christ you have stripped off the old self with its practices and put on the new, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of your creator, where there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, slave and free, but Christ is all and in all! (Col 3:10-11)
Leader: The peace of the Lord be always with you.
All: And also with you.
Hymn: Blue #576 For the Healing of the Nations
For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord;
for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords.
To a life of love in action help us rise and pledge our word.
Lead your people into freedom, from despair your world release,
that, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace.
Show us how, through care and goodness, fear will die and hope increase.
A Prayer for Spiritual Communion
Leader: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst…54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. (John 6)
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
All: Dear Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to possess you within my soul. And since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to you, together with all your faithful people gathered around every altar of your Church, and I embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
Concluding Prayer
Leader: Creator God, you have fed us with bread from heaven. Continue to renew us in your truth, to give light to our minds and strength to our bodies, and seal us with your Holy Spirit. We ask this in Christ’s name. Amen
Hymn: Blue #497 Eternal Ruler of the Ceaseless Round
Leader: Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. Alleluia!
All: Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
