Processional Hymn: Blue Hymnal #306 O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Celebrant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

People: And also with you

Collect For Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden.  Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Lord, have mercy

Christ, have mercy

Lord, have mercy

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, your Son came into the world to free us all from sin and death. Breathe upon us with the power of your Spirit, that we may be raised to new life in Christ, and serve you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.

The Proclamation of the Word

First Reading: Ezekiel 37:1-14

Psalm 130

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
   Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
    to the voice of my supplications!

 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
    Lord, who could stand?
 But there is forgiveness with you,
    so that you may be revered.

 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
 my soul waits for the Lord
    more than those who watch for the morning,
    more than those who watch for the morning.

 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
    For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
    and with him is great power to redeem.
 It is he who will redeem Israel
    from all its iniquities.

Second Reading: Romans 8:6-11

Sermon

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.  We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.  For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.  We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.  With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.  He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.  We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.  We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

The Prayers of the People

Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord. Lord, give us strength and hear our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for patience and courage in a difficult time, and for the faith to turn to Him. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for your church throughout the world, especially in all places where the faithful cannot gather. Give us courage, Lord, to continue to be your church: to pray and to sing your praise; to reach out to those who are lonely, to care for those who are in need. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for your world, now struggling with disease. Give our leaders wisdom; support them with your grace. Give people throughout the world patience to heed difficult restrictions for the sake of others. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for courage to give up quarrels, strife and jealousy in our families, neighbourhoods and communities. May this time help us to realize that even our enemies are precious, and to pray for them. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for all who are sick or suffering in body, mind or spirit. Today we pray especially for those with ongoing conditions and illnesses who are now at greater risk, for people hospitalized with COVID-19, and for cities in the grip of the virus….

[We pray for New York, Italy and Spain… and we pray for those known to us:…]May the presence of the risen Jesus, his body once broken and now made whole, give us courage and hope. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for health care workers. Grant them strength; guard their health, and help them to know your guiding presence throughout the days. [We pray for …] May the wounded hands of Jesus bring in them his healing touch. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear  our prayer.

We pray to the Lord for those who have died, throughout the world, and in our own families. May the feet of the risen Lord Jesus, once nailed to the cross, walk alongside the dying and bereaved in their suffering, and walk with us and all your Church through death to the gate of glory. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer, now and in eternity. Amen.

Collect For Those In Affliction

Almighty and everlasting God, the comfort of those who mourn and the strength of those who suffer, hear the prayers of your people in this time of trouble. Grant to everyone in distress mercy, relief and refreshment; comfort and heal those who are ill, and keep us all in the shelter of your everlasting arms, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: Blue #78 Deck Yourself, My Soul, with Gladness

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Recessional Hymn: Blue #400 What Wondrous Love Is This

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down
when I was sinking down, sinking down
When I was sinking down beneath God's righteous frown,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul

To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing;
to God and to the Lamb I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM,
while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
while millions join the theme, I will sing

And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on;
and when from death I'm free, I'll sing on;
and when from death I'm free, I'll sing his love for me,
and through eternity I'll sing on, I'll sing on;
and through eternity I'll sing on

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

We pray for:     Dianne Young;  Jacob and Michelle Bhana;  Japheth Bhana and Cylus;  Jessie Bhana;  Victor and Saleem Bhana;  Jonathan Bhana
