The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. We pray to the Lord for patience and courage in a difficult time, and for the faith to turn to Him. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.
We pray to the Lord for your church throughout the world, especially in all places where the faithful cannot gather. Give us courage, Lord, to continue to be your church: to pray and to sing your praise; to reach out to those who are lonely, to care for those who are in need. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.
We pray to the Lord for your world, now struggling with disease. Give our leaders wisdom; support them with your grace. Give people throughout the world patience to heed difficult restrictions for the sake of others. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.
We pray to the Lord for courage to give up quarrels, strife and jealousy in our families, neighbourhoods and communities. May this time help us to realize that even our enemies are precious, and to pray for them. Lord, meet us in the silence; give us strength and hear our prayer.
We pray to the Lord for all who are sick or suffering in body, mind or spirit. Today we pray especially for those with ongoing conditions and illnesses who are now at greater risk, for people hospitalized with COVID-19, and for cities in the grip of the virus….

Almighty and everlasting God, the comfort of those who mourn and the strength of those who suffer, hear the prayers of your people in this time of trouble. Grant to everyone in distress mercy, relief and refreshment; comfort and heal those who are ill, and keep us all in the shelter of your everlasting arms, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
